Caption:
A Bush TV 22 television receiverwith a 'walnut' bakelite case. Bakelite was the first synthetic material used to make the cases for television sets. The TV 22 was introduced in 1950. Bakelite was created in 1907 by Leo Baekeland (1863-1944), a Belgian chemist. Due to public cautiousness it was initially made to imitate various natural materials such as wood.
